However, this comes at a sonic price and some people have remarked that the tone of Pianoteq is artificial-sounding. Once you account for those things, there are way more than 127 possible tones per note and to what degree? (these are settings in Pianoteq) How many microphones are currently set up and where are they positioned? How much resonance has already built up from the other notes that have been played? Are the mallets hard or soft? Etc, etc, etc. it's not just 0 or 127 anymore) What is the length of the piano bed? What material is it made of? Is the lid open? If so, to what degree? Is the piano 'old' or 'new'?. What note was played before? What note is being played now? Is a pedal down? And, if so, which pedal? (and to what degree is the pedal 'down'. However, a modeled instrument takes into account a lot of other things. With a modeled instrument, there are so many other factors. but it is also ONLY 381 tones that can EVER come out of that instrument. If you sample a single piano key at 127 velocities and 3x RR, that is still 381 possible tones. With a sampled instrument, there are only so many tones (samples) that can be produced.
